Going Gray is Now Chic!

Going Gray is Now Chic!

Have You Been Noticing Celebrities Have Become Silver Foxes - Rocker "Pink," Actress Jamie Lee Curtis?

In the past, graying men have been called "distinguished-looking," while women were coined as "mousy," "drab," or "salt and pepper." Some conditions even necessitated letting hair go gray...psoriasis of the scalp, alopecia and allergies to hair dyes.
A close friend was prematurely gray since her twenties, a genetic thing. She feels it's refreshing and liberating not to worry about applying hair color anymore. One friend at the gym sports a cute, ultra-short and spiky white coif. My Sister-in-Law has gone "au natural."
What's so neat about this fashion trend is that senior women no longer fear turning gray. They like who they are, and where they are in their lives. They've earned every silver hair on their head!
Pantene colorist Danillo was quoted recently in USA Weekend as saying "Your head becomes a jewel - metallic, reflective and eccentric."
In order to maintain a beautiful head of gray, it is necessary to condition devotedly with a blue or violet-tinted shampoo. This regime will help gray, white or blonde hair to stay shiny and smooth, with no brassiness.
I've heard that this fall's color hues include pewter and pearl. Won't the shimmering heads of gray look striking with these hues? We may have to rethink the old adage that "blondes have more fun!"
Helpful hints
Women expressed their views on WebMD forums, and offered the following tips:
With expert help from a hairdresser, turning gray can become a gradual process through highlighting. Women with a "skunk look" should try highlighting. The one downside was that a redhead's graying transition makes hair turn orange/yellow. (One woman's view was that redheads don't gray gracefully, so as my redheaded friend told me, she'll go to her grave a redhead!)
Many preferred a "short" hair style. Lessen the transition time by growing hair out, then having it cut into a cute short coif. Going gray allowed dyed and processed hair to become healthy again. Some skin tones and hair colors can accentuate wrinkles; but with lighter hair color, the skin looks better. Wear make-up and earrings to add color. Best of all, money is saved for other priorities.
